Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Basketball Welcomes Josh Powell

Ginebra taps NBA journeyman Powell to replace Rodgers. MANILA, Philippines – The search for Leon Rodgers' replacement is over. After burning the lines over the weekend, Barangay Ginebra has already locked up Josh Powell as the Kings' new import starting on Wednesday against Meralco Bolts. A high-ranking Ginebra official privy to the details told Philstar.com that the new import is set to arrive Tuesday. Powell, listed as 6-9 in the NBA, is expected to make the measurement by Tuesday afternoon. He is fresh from playing for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball League, where he averaged 15 points on top of 9.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists. The 31-year-old is a legitimate NBA veteran having played for Dallas, Toronto, Indiana, Golden State, Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, and Atlanta for a total of seven seasons. The ineffective Rodgers was given the pink slip after the Kings went off to a rough 2-4 start. The volume-shooting import played scored 18 points and got benched for most of the fourth quarter in the King's last game against Air21. With a 2-4 start, the Kings hope that Powell can still lead them to the playoffs. After Meralco, they will face Alaska before winding up their elimination round against Rain or Shine on April 16. -- By Alder Almo (philstar.com) Source: Facebook.com/BGSMdugongGinebra
